Clinical Approach

Three principles in pediatric care

Every decision in the consulting room takes shape where current literature, the individual history of the child, and calm communication with parents intersect.

01

Evidence-Based Medicine

Diagnostic and treatment decisions follow national and international pediatric guidelines and current medical literature. Rather than unnecessary tests or unnecessary antibiotics, the aim is a rational approach matched to the child's clinical picture.

02

Preventive Care

Pediatric care should not begin only when a child becomes ill. Immunisation, growth and development monitoring, nutritional guidance and safety advice are all part of regular follow-up during healthy periods.

03

Open Communication with Parents

The goal is not to increase anxiety but to make the process understandable. Which findings are expected and which require follow-up is explained in clear language, with written guidance where helpful.

From the Clinic

A calm foundation in the consulting room

In pediatrics, half of a consultation is communication. An environment where the child feels safe and the parent can ask questions freely is a precondition for taking an accurate history and reaching the right decision.

Featured Clinical Interest

Respiratory health in children

Wheezing, recurrent cough and asthma are among the most common reasons children see a doctor. Successful treatment depends not only on choosing the right medication, but on delivering it with the right technique.

Dr. Ayça Sözen's academic interests include inhaler device use in children and family education. In clinical practice, inhaler and spacer use is demonstrated step by step in the clinic, verified by observing the family's own technique, and reassessed at follow-up visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions parents ask most often

When should a newborn have their first check-up?

The first assessment after discharge is usually carried out within the first days of life. It covers weight gain, feeding patterns, jaundice, umbilical care and whether newborn screening tests have been completed. Gestational age, birth weight and the hospital course may affect the timing.

Is fever after vaccination normal?

Mild fever, irritability or redness at the injection site may occur within the first 24–48 hours after some vaccines; this is an expected immune response. The degree and duration of fever, the child's age and general condition all matter. In infants under 3 months, fever always requires medical assessment.

My child wheezes — does every wheeze mean asthma?

No. Transient wheezing triggered by viral infections is common in the first years of life and most cases do not progress to an asthma diagnosis. Asthma assessment considers the frequency of episodes, triggers, night-time symptoms, family history and response to treatment together.

When should complementary feeding begin?

The general approach is to start complementary foods at around 6 months, also taking the infant's developmental readiness into account. The timing may differ depending on gestational age, growth curve, allergy risk and the individual situation, so the plan is personalised in the clinic.
